Manuscript Group 167 SAMUEL WALLIS COLLECTION 1763-1873 .5 cu. ft.
Samuel Wallis, a native Muncy Farm in Northumberland County, worked as a surveyor
during the respective periods of service of John Lukens (1781-1789) and Daniel
Brodhead (1789-1809) as surveyors general of the Commonwealth. The major portion
of the collection pertains to the sizable tracts of land in the north central
region of Pennsylvania. In addition to letters, which relate to either the surveying
of or sale of land, there are items relevant to biographical research on John
Adlum, Joseph Preistley, William Maclay, Archibald Mclean and John Nicholson.
The files contain correspondence, 1766-1830, legal papers, 1770-1845, land papers,
1763-1873 and accounts, 1769-1824.
