ETHNIC STUDIES COLLECTIONS
1789-1994

Collections, to be added to on a regular basis, contain: a general newspaper collection;
photographs of immigrant workers, families, ethnic and religious organizations;
church anniversary histories; and individual collections pertaining to Pennsylvania
ethnic groups obtained under the Pennsylvania Ethnic Studies Program sponsored
by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.
The Carpatho-Russian
Collection, 1947-1974, consists primarily of publications relating to the American
Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Greek Catholic Diocese of Johnstown founded in 1938
as a result of disputes with the Roman Catholic Church over Latinization and celibacy.
Included in the collection are copies of the church paper, Cerkounyj Vistnik,
1957-1972, church anniversary books, and miscellaneous manuals and pamphlets.
The church anniversary histories consist of church, diocesan, and pastoral anniversary
and dedication booklets.
