Leon Karpel was an antiques dealer from Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The collection includes
half-tone photographic prints of eighteenth century Pennsylvania buildings and
structures, originally published in American Architect and Architecture,
Architectural Forum, and Architectural Record, 1920-1955. Subjects
include interior and exterior views, schematic drawings and close-ups of unique
features. Structures are primarily from Eastern Pennsylvania and especially
Philadelphia. The following representative structures are found in the collection:
Carlisle-Beltzhoover House, Ephraim Blaine House, Dickinson College, Carlisle
Meetinghouse and Tom Moore House, Newton - Gutman House, Hillis House, Richardson
House. Philadelphia - John Bartram House, Fairmount Park buildings, St. Peter's
Church, and others.
