M. Lee Goldsmith (b. 1889-d. 1965) was son of Joseph Goldsmith (b. 1814-d. 1929),
founder of the Goldsmith Furniture Store located on North Market Street, Harrisburg.
In 1881 Joseph Goldsmith and Amos Fry founded the furnitue and upholstory store
in which M. Lee Goldsmith also became a partner in 1919. The latter became sole
owner of the business in 1929 and his sons, Richard S. and Joseph K., became partners
in 1953. The sons acquired ownership of the firm 1965 and continued to operate
the business under the name of M. Lee Goldsmith, Incorporated until 1981 when
it was sold to a New York based firm.
The Records consist mainly of photographs and advertising material relating
to the business activities, 1872-1946. Also included are correspondence, 1963-1977;
advertising materials, 1952-1956; and photographs, 1953-1969.
