The Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association was established in 1883. The Association is dedicated to the care and welfare of domesticated animals in Pennsylvania.

Records relate to ongoing activities of the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association (PVMA), 1914-1987, including records of annual meetings, 1914-1987; minutes of the Board of Trustees, 1958-1987; Minutes of the Board of Governors, 1979-1987; printed issues of the Association's newsletter, 1959-1968, 1975-1987 known under various titles as "The Pennsylvania Veterinarian," 1959-1968 (5 bound volumes), "PVMA Newsletter," 1975-1985 and "PVMA News," 1985-1987 (unbound).

Other materials include xeroxed copies of minutes of meetings and other records relating to the United States Veterinary Medical Association, the PVMA, and the PVMA Chapters, 1883-1983; research materials, including photographs, relating to and a copy of After 1883: One Hundred Years of Organized Veterinary Medicine in Pennsylvania by Ray Thompson (Philadelphia: Saunders Co., 1982).
