Matthew Magda was a member of the staff of the Division of History, Pennsylvania
Historical and Museum Commission from the late 1970s to 1986. He held positions
as Associate Historian, Acting Chief and Deputy Chief of the Division of History
during his years with the Commission. Magda was involved with ethnic histories,
oral histories, and the grant program and is the author of several books including
The Historical Society as a Fund Raiser and Non-Profit Corporations: A Guide,
and Monessen: Industrial Boom town and Steel Community, 1898-1980; and
pamphlets including The Poles in Pennsylvania, and The Welsh in Pennsylvania.
Matthew Magda was also a community activist, involved with the anti-nuclear movement.
Materials present in the collection include: broadsides, congressional replies,
miscellaneous papers (many relate to the Three Mile Island alert and the protest
against nuclear power plants), newsletters, and newspaper clippings.
