MG-13. JOHN ADLUM PAPERS, 1794-1816.

John Adlum (1759-1836) was a Pennsylvania surveyor, land speculator and "Father of American Viticulture." One letter, dated February 22, 1820, found in the series General Correspondence, 1794-1836, is from Thomas Barker to his son, Luke W. Barker. Luke asked his father if he had heard from a Dr. T—, who was making employment arrangements for "Negro" slaves. Apparently, Dr. T— did not pay for the previous use of Barker’s "Negro."
