MG-59. JOHN S. GOODWIN COLLECTION, 1861-1865.

Letters of John S. Goodwin, Civil War soldier, to his mother and sister in Delaware County relating to service in the 97th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers. In several of his letters, he refers to a "regiment of nigers" and complains that "they have it better than my regiment." One letter refers to the "Black regiment at Port Royal, Hilton Head" and "blacks at Camp Hamilton."
