MG-164. HIRAM GILBERT ANDREWS COLLECTION, 1890-1964.

Hiram Gilbert Andrews (1877-1968), editorial director of the Johnstown Democrat from 1928 through 1941, was a prominent spokesman for the Democratic party in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1932 to 1963, serving at various times as minority whip, minority floor leader, and speaker of the house. Among the books in his collection is William M. Hall’s Reminiscences and Sketches which includes a chapter entitled "Slave-catching in Bedford County."
