MG-196. HORACE M. ENGLE COLLECTION, 1971-1973.

Born near Marietta, Pennsylvania, Horace M. Engle was an inventor and master photographer. Active in mineral exploration and land and water power development at Roanoke, Virginia and Ontario, Canada, among other places, he served as an alternate delegate to the 1888 National Convention of the Prohibition Party held in Indianapolis, Indiana. Included in this collection is a July 2, 1862 issue of the Philadelphia Inquirer containing articles entitled "Great Meeting in New York," "Protest Against Negro Agitation," "Our Fortress Monroe Letter," "The Proceedings of Congress," etc., all of which address "negro freedom" and the Civil War.
