MG-459. HISTORICAL FOUNDATION OF PENNSYLVANIA RECORDS, 1961-1994. (unprocessed}

Formed in 1961 to promote the preservation of Pennsylvania’s rich historical heritage, each year the foundation presents two awards for outstanding achievement in historical education. The S. K. Stevens Award acknowledges achievements of local historical societies and the Philip Klein Award acknowledges outstanding historical writing by individuals. These records contain charters, bylaws, minutes of annual meetings and the executive committee meetings, correspondence, grant applications, project files, newsletters, Internal Revenue Service audit information, bank statements, account books, and membership records of the Historical Foundation of Pennsylvania. In 1994 the S. K. Stevens Award was presented to the Wyoming Historical and Geological Society for a publication entitled African Americans in the Wyoming Valley, 1778-1990, "in recognition of outstanding accomplishment in the field of state and local history as certified by the American Association for State and Local History and the Pennsylvania Federation of Museums and Historical Organizations."
