Dauphin County tax lists, noting both free and slave inhabitants for the years
1800 and 1807. The following municipalities are included for the year 1800 in
the succeeding order: Middle Paxton, Swatara, Upper Paxton, West Hanover, Lower
Paxton, Lebanon, Harrisburg, Bethel, Londonderry, Derry, Annville, and East Hanover;
for the year 1807: Londonderry, Heidelberg, Derry, Upper Paxton, Swatara, Lebanon,
Harrisburg, Bethel, Halifax, Annville, Middle Paxton, Lower Paxton, and West Hanover
are present, in that sequence. Information provided for the slave population includes
name, sex, and age, and in some instances the slaveholder, as well as whether
the slaves were to be held in bondage permanently or for a certain time.
