John M. Phillips (b.1861, d. 1953) of Pittsburgh was for many years the president
of the Phillips Mine Supply Company that he helped to organize in 1898. He was
also president of the Board of Game Commissioners of Pennsylvania, 1905-1924;
a trustee of American Wildlife Institute; and a member of the National Executive
Board of the Boy Scouts of America. The papers reflect Phillips' career as a prominent
conservationist.
