Papers used by Millicent Barton Rex, historian, in preparing lectures, essays, and articles on the life and career of James White (b. 1802, d. 1873), a doctor in Hartstown, Crawford County, and on the mid-nineteenth-century history of Jefferson College, Canonsburg, school attended by A. McLeon White, son of James White. Collection embraces correspondence, commissions, licenses to practice medicine, legal papers, land papers, photographs, notes on anatomy, an address entitled "The Indications of Cure in Disease," a dissertation on tonics, and accounts of James White; correspondence and photographs of A. McLeon White; and miscellaneous White family materials. Included are letters of inquiry, notes, and manuscripts of essays and articles, 1942-1949, by Millicent Barton Rex.
