John C. Bell, Jr. (b. 1892, d. 1974), Philadelphia lawyer, was assistant city solicitor, Philadelphia, 1919-1922; assistant district attorney, Philadelphia, 1922-1925; the Commonwealth's secretary of banking, 1939-1943; Pennsylvania's lieutenant governor, 1943-1947; and Pennsylvania's governor, January 2-21, 1947. Named to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in 1950, he subsequently became that body's chief justice.

Papers are those of Governor Bell, 1947, including addresses and statements, January 2-17; appointments, January 6-20; extradition papers, January 2-16; and items relating to Governor Bell's dinner in honor of James H. Duff, governor-elect, January 20.
