Photograph collection, 1895-1925, with original index, of William W. Stoey (b. 1846, d. 1925), Harrisburg taxidermist, conservationist, and naturalist. Featured are personalities, families (Berrier, Peiffer, Sullenberger, Yingst, etc.), historic buildings, commercial buildings, forges and furnaces, sawmills, gristmills, distilleries, churches and cemeteries, trains and railroad facilities, roads, bridges, streams, wild life - especially birds - and nature scenes, etc., of Harrisburg and of the Dauphin County, Cumberland County, and Adams County areas. Included are views of Gettysburg Battlefield, a copy of a portrait of Governor Joseph Ritner, and photographs of Pennsylvania's capitol buildings.

Collection also features a diary, 1893-1895, showing Stoey's experiences as a naturalist including his involvement - along with Benjamin W. Demming, Mira Lloyd Dock, John H. Fager, W. M. Fahnestock, and others - in the April 24, 1894, formation of the Natural Science Association of Harrisburg.
