Collection contains Civil War letters, photographs, and a diary of Josiah Bloss (born 1841, died 1908), a resident of Providence in Lackawanna County, who was mustered in to Company K, 17th Pennsylvania Cavalry on September 30, 1862, as a blacksmith. Also included are the commission of Josiah's brother, William F. Bloss, a carpenter from Luzerne County who enlisted in Company H, 76th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers and who died August 4, 1864, in Hampton Hospital, of wounds received at Petersburg. Additional materials include photographs, genealogical notes and related documents of the Bloss family.
