OLD MILL VILLAGE COLLECTION
1845-1847, 1857-1870, 1883-1897, 1907-1915, 1932-1937, & undated
3.5 cubic feet

Old Mill Village recreates early farm life in Pennsylvania near New Milford. It is the site of a millpond and an old mill built about 1830 where water ran the millwheel and where other craft buildings had been built. There had also been an early turnpike nearby where thousands of settlers passed each year going westward in covered wagons, stagecoaches and on horseback. This museum is under the direction of the Pennsylvania Historical Museum Commission, in cooperation with the Associate Members of Old Mill Village Museum. The collection was donated by Bruce Bazelon, past Registrar of the State Museum, in 1980.

Collection includes account books and images of various types, including ambrotypes, cabinet cards, carte-de-vistes, photographs, postcards, and tintypes. Portrait photographs are of men, women, and children, as well as some families, and even one image of a dog. Stereoscopic views include images of the Civil War (bodies, troops, ships, forts, camps), Europe, Africa, and Texas sites and scenery. Most photographs and views are of unidentified persons, taken by photographers from Pennsylvania or New York state, mostly undated, with some dating from the 1890s. A few images of New York City and the Niagara Falls area, which date from roughly 1900, are also present.

The volumes include: a dental register of care received by patients of central Susquehanna County, 1902-1915; cash or account books, 1845-1847, 1857-1860, 1863-1866, 1864-1870, 1883-1890, 1896-1897; scrapbooks of business cards, n.d., ticket stubs, 1932-1937 (includes Al Jolson concert tickets at CBS Radio Playhouse, Hollywood, 1937), and greeting cards (2 portrait photographs), ca. late 19th century; publication on phrenology and physiognomy, 1869; and meeting minutes of the directors of New Milford Dairy Company, 1907-1915.
