Harry (1885-1926) and Leon Lowengard (1886-1951) were printers and owners of The Sunday Courier, a weekly Harrisburg newspaper, from 1905 to 1930. Both men were active with the Young Men's Hebrew Association and Leon appears to have headed a troop of Jewish Harrisburg boys.
The papers consist chiefly of business records such as cash books, 1909-1921;
a business ledger, 1911-1913; a carrier boys' cash book containing carrier boys'
names and addresses, 1905-1907; a printing sample showing the routine activities
involved in publishing a weekly newspaper, 1930; newspaper advertisements, 1907,
1930, undated; personal account books of Harry Lowengard, 1914-1918; and a personal
account book and loose accounts kept while treasurer of the Young Men's Hebrew
Association of Harrisburg, 1915-1918. Leon Lowengard's Boy Scout publications,
correspondence, and photographs, 1913-1918, and undated are also present. There
is also a leather pouch with a "L" embroidered upon it.
