Maris Harvey Taylor (1876-1982) was a Pennsylvania State Senator from 1941 to 1964 and President pro tem of the Senate, 1947-1964. After founding an insurance agency in Harrisburg in 1915, Taylor was subsequently elected to Harrisburg City Council in 1907, held numerous Dauphin County offices, 1920-1934, and chaired the Pennsylvania State Republican Party, 1934-1937.

This collection is mainly comprised of personal correspondence (1902-1905, 1935, 1943, 1963, 1964, 1972-1982), newsclippings of Taylor's career (1929-1981 and undated) and photographs of Taylor with Governor and Mrs. Scranton, Governor Duff, and President Nixon. There are also numerous personal and publicity photographs including views of dinner meetings, birthday parties, and early (1896, 1911) baseball teams. Other items include early (1913-1919) election posters, testimonials, resolutions, citations, birthday greetings, and dedications (1934, 1941, 1943, 1946-1948, 1952, 1956, 1958, 1963-1967, 1973-79, 1982).

Items of a political nature (correspondence, etc.) were lost in the 1972 flood that devastated Harrisburg.
