An organization affiliated with both the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum
Commission and the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the Pennsylvania Federation
of Junior Historians was organized in 1942. In 1982 the group reorganized and
incorporated under the non-profit corporation laws as the Student Historians
of Pennsylvania, Inc., at 632 West Main Street, Ephrata, Pennsylvania. Its purpose
was to encourage young people to become actively involved in historical endeavors,
to provide opportunities for interested students to participate in historical
activities, to provide teachers with materials and experiences at Pennsylvania
historic sites relating to the social studies curriculum, and to arouse interest
in the past by publication of historical materials. Included are by-laws, minutes,
reports, publications, conference materials, correspondence, and membership
lists. The bulk of the records are administrative materials covering the period
1980 through 1999, the year in which the organization was disbanded.
As of October 2009, this collection remains unprocessed.
