Collection of letters with original envelopes written by or relating to Private Daniel Crouch, Company D, 82nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry to his wife, Mary A. Crouch of Albion, Pennsylvania. Includes additional family correspondence, both pre-war and post-war, to Mary Crouch who sought a widow's pension after Daniel went missing at the Battle of Cold Harbor, Virginia. Also present are 11 family photographs. Other correspondents include the U.S. Sanitary Commission, State Normal School of Edinboro, Office of Commissary General of Prisoners, and the Army and Navy Claim Agency. Daniel Crouch wrote many of these letters while serving as a guard at Johnson's Island near Sandusky, Ohio on Lake Erie, a Union prison that housed Confederate officers.
