Papers of Horace A. Keefer, manager of the Pine Grove Furnace for Jay Cooke in
the 1880s, president in the 1890s of the K. C. & L. Railway, Wallula, Kansas,
and from 1896 to 1900 a Populist member of the Kansas Legislature. Featured are
letters relating mainly to political and economic matters, from Charles J. Bonaparte,
William Jennings Bryan, Simon Cameron, Jay Cooke, J. W. Leedy, and Theodore Roosevelt;
letters to Bryan, Cooke, George W. Norris, and Franklin D. Roosevelt; a scrapbook
of newspaper clippings relating to the campaign of 1896, on free silver, and to
various and social matters, 1889-1900; and Keefer's manuscript, "Old Pine Grove
Furnace, 1770-1928."
