A. Erie Lackawanna Railway
TRACK MAPS OF THE ERIE RAILROAD AND THE DELAWARE, LACKAWANNA AND WESTERN RAILROAD,
circa 1917-1976. (24 boxes)
The Erie Lackawanna Railway (EL) was formed by the 1960 merger of the Erie Railroad and the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western (DL&W) Railroad. This collection contains maps of the Erie and the DL&W rail lines in the states of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana, along with a few sheets in New York state. The maps usually measure about 24x72 inches; they are diazo prints, blue lines on white paper. The original maps were drawn as part of the Interstate Commerce Commission valuation process of the 19-teens to 1920s era, and the maps were updated to show changes up to about 1976. Each sheet typically covers one or two miles of trackage, more in rural areas and less in urban areas. The maps show details of individual tracks, adjacent structures, and property boundaries. The maps will be of interest to community and railroad historians, and to those researching property boundaries.
