Wood Shed

A woodshed was a necessity as long as the farmhouse lacked central oil, coal, or gas heating, which could be well into the 20th century in some locales. The woodshed sheltered split cordwood from the elements and was located conveniently to the house. In the Northern Tier, a woodshed was often added onto the kitchen ell of an upright-and-wing house.
