This area of the Pennsylvania Archaeology website provides curriculums, downloadable resources, and a virtual tour of the archaeology gallery at the State Museum of Pennsylvania.
Learning about archaeology is an excellent way to gain awareness of the past and an understanding of the consequences of human behavior and decision-making. An understanding of the role of archaeology in interpreting our heritage can lead to a sense of stewardship and support for the protection of archaeological sites.
Curriculums - Two curriculums developed by the PHMC for use in grades four through eight.
- Project Archaeology - three part lesson plan, student text, and a supplemental unit.
- Table Top Archaeology - information on setting up a simulated archaeological dig for classroom instruction.
- Downloadable pamphlets about the archaeology of Pennsylvania.
- The Mystery of the Monongahela Indians – A 24-page booklet describing the culture of the Monongahela Indians found in Western Pennsylvania.
- A chart summarizing Pennsylvania prehistory and history, showing changes in spear and arrow point styles over time.
- An approximately 17 minute video tour of the archaeology gallery at the State Museum of Pennsylvania.
