National Register Nominations

Many states and cities focused on surveying and nominating their historic resources during the late 1970s and early 1980s after the passage of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966. Due to the "50-year rule" for National Register eligibility, many surveys only included buildings constructed up to the 1940s. In general, surveying residential resources from the recent past was not a priority. However, as funding has become available, and an interest in inventorying and documenting these resources has increased, many states and cities are either re-surveying areas or undertaking brand new surveys to capture these resources.

Listed below are files and links for various National Register of Historic Places nominations, thematic Studies, city surveys, studies and such from around the country that may help you get acquainted with the various types of resources, nomenclature, and methodology being used.
