MG-149. STEVENS-OUTMAN FAMILY PAPERS, 1856-1972.
Papers of the Outman and Stevens families of Potter County. Prominent among those represented in the papers are Erastus C. Outman (1853-1920) of Harrison Valley, who was a grandfather of Dr. Sylvester K. Stevens, executive director of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, and Anna (Outman) Stevens (1873-1950), daughter of E. C. Outman and mother of Dr. Stevens. This collection contains the papers of Dr. Sylvester K. Stevens concerning his book Pennsylvania: Birthplace of a Nation. The book, which is not itself included in the papers, contains many references to the African American experience in Pennsylvania history. Also found within the papers is a copy of the Dickinson Alumnus, Summer 1967, Vol. 44, No. 3, which contains an article accompanied by pictures reporting "Phi Eps Honor 'Pappy’ Hodge for 50 Years at Dickinson." The Phi Epsilon Pi fraternity gathered on May 17, 1967 at the Marriott Motor Hotel, Philadelphia to honor Paul Hodge, and African American, for fifty years of service as house man at their Dickinson College fraternity house.
