MG-155. CURTIN IRON WORKS RECORDS, 1810-1941.

Founded in 1807, this Centre County business once covered over six thousand acres, including furnace, forge, and supporting facilities. The firm was later known as the Eagle Iron Works.

Provisions Book, August 9, 1830-April 1833. Entries for purchasing goods are found for the following African Americans: John Brown, Jerry Cook, John Cornish, Lewis Dorsey, John Gibson, Thomas Green, James Jacobs, George Johnston, Robert Norris, Charles Peters, Daniel Till, and Henry Watkins.

Time and Payroll Books.

Time Book and Miscellaneous Accounts, March 3, 1815-September 1, 1828. This book contains on page 44 an entry reading: "Black man-started Tuesday, September 10, worked 6-1/2 days" and an entry on page 83 reveals "J. Brown, July 5, 1824-July 30, 1824, worked 23 days."
