Dr. John Anderson (1766-1837) was a county official and land speculator in Bedford County, developer of the Bedford Mineral Springs health spa, and an ancestor of Harrisburg industrialist Ross Anderson Hickok (1876-1943).
General Correspondence, 1777-1834. In the personal letters to Dr. John Anderson that are arranged alphabetically by surname of correspondent, one letter dated October 21, 1821, from James Lytle reveals that he (Lytle) worked with a "black man" who was possibly from Washington, D.C. In another letter, dated December 7, 1818, Mark Richards wrote, "I was sorry to hear that the black boy conducted himself so rascally . . ."
