MG-347. JEAN F. GERDES COLLECTION OF JAMES H. DUFF PHOTOGRAPHS, [ca. 1925-1958].
The collection consists of photographs of Governor James H. Duff (1947-1950) during his career as state auditor general, governor, and United States senator. The photographs were collected by his wife, Jean T. Duff, and were donated to the State Archives in 1981 by his grandniece, Jean F. Gerdes. Most photographs show Duff with a variety of people including his family, entertainers, as well as state and nationally known politicians. Included are photographs of various African Americans at different political events, such as the National Republican Women’s Conference, May 9, 1955; the Republican Convention, July 1952; and the Senate Hearings on Teamster Corruption, 1958.
