JOHN ENMAN COLLECTION
[ca. 1959-1965]
2 boxes, 8 reels
Dr. John A. Enman (b. 1921- ) was a professor of geography at Bloomsburg State
College (now Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania), who retired in 1984. The
collection consists of black and white photographic prints and color motion film
by Enman of bituminous coal mining towns and related coke ovens and collieries
in Westmoreland and Fayette Counties, Pennsylvania, ca. 1960. Some of the prints
were used to illustrate Enman's 1962 Ph.D. Dissertation for the University of
Pittsburgh, "The Relation of Coal Mining and Coke Making to the Distribution of
Population Agglomerations in the Connellsville (Pa.) Beehive Coke Region." Enman
retains the original negatives.
