Volunteer
Volunteer positions are available on Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and are scheduled on an as-needed basis with the State Museum of Pennsylvania's Archaeology Lab, located in the Keystone Building in downtown Harrisburg. Any individual over the age of 16 is welcome to volunteer. Volunteers who are able to participate on a regular basis are preferred.
Our volunteers help with donated collections, slide scanning, secretarial duties, and general curatorial support. Collections may include artifacts from both historic and Native American sites in Pennsylvania.
In addition to the lab, The State Museum's volunteers help out with special events throughout the year, including The PA Farm Show, The Annual Workshops in Archaeology, and Kipona to name a few. During September and October of each year, volunteers have the opportunity to participate in ongoing excavations at Fort Hunter. Excavations typically occur Monday thru Friday during mid-September to mid-October and on Fort Hunter Day.
