Forebay Enclosed on Eaves Side
Lower Mahanoy Township, Northumberland Township
This barn started out as a Pennsylvania Barn, but sometime in the twentieth century its forebay
was enclosed all the way across the eaves – thus essentially eliminating the forebay. The original
forebay foundation wall is visible, and it is possible to see a seam where the enclosure begins.
The concrete block construction and regularly spaced windows show dairy adaptations.
The windows in the upper portion of the barn nearest the road show poultry adaptations.
Barn with forebay enclosed on eaves side, Juniata County, date unknown.
Barn (c. 1860) with forebay enclosed on eaves side (c. 1930), South Lebanon Township, Lebanon County.
